Happiness - A Reflection

The question that seems to plague citizens of almost every country is the age old question: “what is the secret to happiness”.  Our blog group analyzed what the secret to happiness is and what makes a country happy.  We consulted many different studies to determine the happiest countries in the world and then chose countries from distinct parts of the world to profile and analyze.  We analyzed Bhutan, known for their unique way to measure happiness using a Gross National Happiness Index (GNH) unique to the country.  This allows the government to measure how happy their country is and what aspects of life in Bhutan make their citizens happier.  Bhutan is a good example of a country that has brought happiness down to a science.  The next country we profiled was Mexico and brought into question the connection between money and happiness.  Mexico is not considered a wealthy country yet their people are considered some of the happiest in the world.

We found that the easiest way to research was to start with the news outlets that they took us to in the academic searches this information came from.  We were able to accumulate a lot of information and then as a group take turns researching and putting this information into a post.  This allowed us to pick the sources that we felt best related to our topic and use our group members’ abilities to write the best posts we could. As a group we learned that schedules do not always add up but fortunately Google Drive allowed us to participate on blog posts at different times of the day.

This project helped me put into perspective the things that are important to people in other countries and how that differs from what we think is important in the United States.  It is inspiring to learn about others who live in countries where they have so little yet they are so grateful for what they have.  It’s funny how we get caught up in our own lives and forget how special certain things are to people who have nothing.
